Our ACMG certified guides are well-versed in the terrain. Their knowledge extends to the finer things like the best views, the storm cycle runs, pillow drops and the best time to head for the alpine. Many of our guide staff have been skiing here for 10 + years. They value the small group experience.

During storms, trees provide visibility and shelter. Our forested tenure includes stands of old growth trees and protected Whitebark Pines. The huge overstory and natural spacing makes for great skiing. 

Timing is everything, burly is overrated.

We love it here. This place is our home away from home, we know its secrets, its moods, its strengths and vulnerabilities. Guided outings bring you to the best and minimize impact. Our chefs include local flavours to keep things real.

  • How To Get Here

    Winter access is by helicopter. Transfers occur in the morning, staging from Cherryville, British Columbia, 45 min east of Vernon, and five guests from Revelstoke, BC.

    Guests flying into Kelowna International Airport need to arrive the night before. Detailed instructions are provided after you have booked.

    Shuttle Service
    For groups of 3 or more, A1 Bus Ltd provides full transfer from the Kelowna airport, to a hotel, and to our staging area the next morning. Vernon Tour and Shuttle is available for smaller groups and guests overnighting in Vernon.

    Pre-trip Accommodation
    Our guests receive a discounted rate at the Vernon Lodge and Fairfield Inn and Suites. For accommodations in Revelstoke, try the newly renovated hotel VRGE.  

    What to Bring
    Sol Mountain is a helicopter-accessed backcountry lodge. All food and supplies are flown in and out. It is essential that all guests pack light. Bring your skis and wear your boots!

    Guest allowance is 20 lbs, plus day pack for skiing. Detailed packing lists and recommendations are delivered upon booking. 

    Boots
    Boots, boots, boots!  Foot comfort is priority one. Be sure you have comfortable touring boots.  New boots should be broken in prior to your trip.  If you are renting, bring along your alpine boots in case. We can make those work. 

    Rentals
    We have limited skis at the lodge, in adult and kid sizes. They can be reserved for your booking. Please ask for details. Rentals include skins and poles.

    Rentals are also available at Powder Rentals in Revelstoke.

    Safety Gear
    Guests bring their own digital avalanche transceiver, avalanche probe, shovel, and pack. We do have 5 sets of safety gear at the lodge available for guests to use at no charge – just reserve in advance.

  • First Day 

    • Meet at the Roadhouse in Cherryville at 7:30 AM Revelstoke guests meet at the airport hangar at 8 AM

    • Helicopter transfer to the lodge

    • Arrival & check-in. Your room will be ready after skiing.

    • Safety training – avalanche rescue practice at the lodge

    • First tracks – we head out for a half-day of warm-up runs

    The Daily Ski Program

    • 6 am coffee

    • 7:30 am breakfast

    • First group leaves 8 am (one group in the boot room at a time)

    • Après when you’re home from skiing, not later than 5:00 PM (dark)

    • Sauna & chill

    • Dinner at 6:30

    Groups are welcome to adjust to half-day skiing, or whatever suits. 

    Distances and degrees of difficulty for each daily program are decided by the guide, based on weather and avalanche conditions, the skill level and energy level of their group. 

    Detailed lists of what to bring and directions to the staging area are included in the pre-trip email. We will send those to you well ahead of your booking.

  • Adventures at Sol Mountain Lodge can include activities that at times may have a higher-than-normal element of risk. Once you venture into the backcountry you are entering an uncontrolled environment. At Sol Mountain Lodge we do our utmost to allow you to enjoy an exhilarating yet safe experience.

    Guided trips are led by highly-trained, professionally-certified members of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides. Safety always comes first, Sol Mountain Lodge strives to ensure it is a key component of any backcountry experience.

    In order to help you be aware of the level of risk associated with the specific backcountry activity you are participating in, we encourage you to review the “Assumption of Risks” portion on the Sol Mountain Lodge Waiver. This will allow you to be prepared, have peace of mind and make your trip as memorable as possible.
