Intro Day to Backcountry Skiing at Silver Star
If you have not backcountry skied before – we offer intro backcountry skiing or snowboarding courses at Silver Star Ski Resort to prepare you for your first backcountry ski trip to the Monashees. The course provides instruction on gear, clothing and packing, and tips and techniques for efficient uphill ski touring. Backcountry skiing is really a sport of details – this course gets the learning stage behind you, making the most of your first days in the backcountry.

Avalanche Skills Training (AST) Courses
In December we offer the option to book a 4 night trip as an AST Level 1 or Level 2 course (see below for specific dates) - or any other regular season trips. We offer a comprehensive backcountry skiing course in addition to the standard 'Level 1 or Level 2 Avalanche Skills Training' course syllabus developed by the Canadian Avalanche Centre. Classroom material is covered in the evenings, giving full days of skiing and discussion of terrain and decision making in avalanche terrain. Instructional materials and student handbooks are provided by the CAC and a certificate is issued at the end of the course. These avalanche training courses are now a prerequisite for more advanced CAC courses. Cost for the December 4 night course is $890 per person with self catering. Catering is available for those groups that are interested, please contact us. Cost includes, ACMG guiding / instruction, lodging, all course materials and helicopter transfer to and from the lodge. Comprehensive Backcountry Skiing Skills
We offer comprehensive backcountry skiing courses, available on any trip to groups of four or more. Course content covers trip planning, terrain selection and routefinding, and includes the 'Level 1 or Level 2 Avalanche Skills Training' course syllabus developed by the Canadian Avalanche Centre. Instructional materials and student handbooks are provided by the CAC and a certificate is issued at the end of the course. Yoga Classes
New this year we offer beginner and intermediate yoga classes on certain trips, instructed by Sabine. Days begin with an early morning Pranayama (breathing) class before your day of backcountry skiing. The ski day is shortened to leave time for a flow Ashtanga yoga class in the afternoon when the muscles are warm and relaxed. You'll see a daily improvement in your skiing as your body and mind becomes more flexible, strong, and balanced with daily yoga practice.

Reservations
Payment is preferred by cheque or money order Visa and Mastercard also accepted - 2% service charge applies.
Follow these steps for reserving you course:
- Check our availability and select your trip from available dates. Contact our booking office, booking(at)solmountain.com or 250.674.3707 to let us know of interested dates. Book as a full group of 12 or more or as a small group.
- Send us a 50% deposit to confirm your booking. Include contact information and requested dates. Once we have received your deposit, we will send you a reservation package.
- The remainder of your trip cost is due on the November 15 prior to your trip. Once full payment is received a trip confirmation package will be sent to you.
- Refund Policy: last cancellation date is November 15, and a refund will be made (less $100 administration fee) if your spot can be filled.
