Sol Mountain's BC hiking lodge is all about mountain living in style.
Though deep in the Monashee Mountain Range south of the town of Revelstoke, Sol Mountain’s modern B.C. hiking and ski touring lodge leaves nothing out and little to chance: We have a full-service kitchen and bar, deluxe private bedrooms, a wood-stove heated sauna, ACMG-licensed guides, and high quality cuisine. Sol Mountain may be off the grid, but it’s hardly roughing it.
To perfect our amenities, we designed our hiking and ski touring lodge after visiting a half-dozen remote lodges. The self-sufficient lodge at Sol Mountain is a roomy three-story timbered alpine villa set at the edge of picturesque alpine meadow. With 10 rooms and 25 comfortable beds, the lodge sleeps 20 or more in our main lodge, with a separate sauna house and extra suite just outside.
Founded in 2004 by ski guide Aaron Cooperman and B.C. woodsman Dave Flear, Sol Mountain is close to hiking for all conditions and abilities. The bright lodge captures full sun from early morning and takes in long evening sunsets.
At Sol Mountain we care a lot about the many small yet critical details that comprise a perfect BC lodge hiking trip: Details like the quality of food, beer and wine we serve and the comfortable beds our guests sleep in every night. During popular catered trips our chef serves meals to fit the needs of hearty hiker appetites using the best regional produce. We’re ready for families with rooms that sleep four. Our living room and covered deck is great for enjoying long appy hours capped off with mountain sunsets.
Food and Cuisine
During our fully catered trips, Sol’s chef Ian Cowan creates meals that highlight the wide variety of food and wine grown locally here in British Columbia. Mornings begin with energy-intense breakfasts and guests head out with lunches packed. Hiking days conclude with appetizers served in the great room of the Sol Mountain main lodge and are followed by summery three-course dinners. Meals include fresh, inspired courses like barbecued organic rack of lamb rolled in roasted pumpkin seeds with lemon parsley-infused couscous. Or savory plates like tomato cumin soup with butter line croutons, filo-wrapped B.C. salmon with brie, grilled bison rib eye steaks with celery root mashed potatoes and Mission Hill red wine sauce. Chef Ian sticks with quality produce and a menu that includes all organic or naturally raised meats.
Local Beer and Wine
Still a little-known secret outside of British Columbia, the Okanagan Valley to the west of us is a burgeoning wine region lined with vineyards. Though Sol Mountain is miles away from our nearest neighbor, we stock our licensed bar with a wide selection of local wines and beers. British Columbia’s fertile Okanagan region holds more than a dozen top-ranked Canadian wineries (such as Blue Mountain and Kettle Valley). We have plenty of local varietals on hand which pour at competitive rates. The licensed bar is open during dining hours.
Self-guided / Self-catered option
For experienced backcountry hikers who prefer to explore new terrain on their own and enjoy cooking for themselves, the lodge is available to privately self-guided and self-catered groups. (Proof of prior backcountry hiking experience is required.) The lodge can sleep up to eighteen in a self-catered group and a representative from Sol Mountain remains present as a caretaker.

Corporate Retreats
Far from the corporate setting, Sol Mountain offers retreats, seminars, and teambuilding in a secluded mountain environment. Meetings and seminar time is motivated by mountain adventure – hiking, fishing, and viewing wildlife and alpine flowers in the summer months and snowshoeing, and cross – country or backcountry skiing in the winter.
Services include wireless internet and a 16 x 24 foot conference room rimmed by large view windows on the main floor and a separate 12 x 12 foot meeting room on the second floor.
For relaxation there is a stretching / yoga room, outdoor wood fired cedar sauna, and a covered deck to enjoy the long Monashee sunsets. Also a rec room with darts and foozball.
Bedrooms
Ten separate bedrooms sleep two guests each with cozy duvets tucked into top quality high-density foam mattresses. Each bedroom has a double or queen bed and a twin. Six bedrooms are outfitted with an additional twin bunk to accommodate families. Bathrooms are shared by guests with five toilets and one hot shower in the lodge. All linen is provided.
Families and Kids
Though remote and far from any town, Sol Mountain's backcountry lodge is an ideal place for a family to enjoy a mountain holiday together. In contrast to the bulk of B.C. backcountry lodges, Sol Mountain has both the facilities and hiking terrain for families. As a bonus, there is no cost for children under 12. Kids of all ages are welcome and easily accommodated in our fully serviced and catered lodge. For those who do not hike far there are short strolls in the flower filled meadows surrounding the lodge, or simply relaxing in our comfortable lodge and enjoying the sauna. We have a wide selection of kids’ toys, and arts and crafts, as well as baby gear (like cribs and backpack carriers). Six of the bedrooms in the lodge can sleep a family of four as they are outfitted with one double and two single beds.
